Outstanding Performance of Rural Entrepreneurship Development

The Institute is engaged in the task of developing first-generation Rural entrepreneurship for the last 33 years in Madhya Pradesh. During the year 1987-88 to 2018-2019, the Institute has conducted 200 EDPs, provided training to about 7500 youth in 17 districts of the western and northern parts of the state. Rural youth who have been trained in different activities in EDPs have shown encouraging success rate ranging from 75% to 100% in terms of setting-up of Self- employed units. Based on the experiences and requirements of the rural youth, the IISD has been able to develop a need-based model for conducting REDPs. Over the past couple of years, the success of EDPs has generated a lot of demand for IISD’s EDPs model.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps

The IISD has been conducting short term Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps for the rural/ urban youth. The specific objectives of the awareness camp are to (1) enable youth to realise their embryonic potential and develop their capabilities to meet the challenges ahead. (2) counsel and motivate youth to seek innovative and challenging career options. (3) cultivate entrepreneurial traits including decision making, moderate risk-taking, creativity, leadership, problem-solving etc. (4) Impart them exposure to potential opportunities existing in business small scale industries and service sectors. Such Camps have successfully inspired and motivated a large number of youth in urban and rural areas.

Bankers -NGOS Meet on Entrepreneurship Development

In the process of Entrepreneurship Development, one of the major external obstacles faced is the non-availability of required, sufficient and timely financial support to trained entrepreneurs. It was, therefore, experienced that the desired success rate could not be achieved in EDPs despite excellent training inputs, because of non-availability of credit from banks. Keeping this in view, IISD conducts workshops for bankers to make them aware of the EDPs approach, follow up, monitoring and role of support system therein. Meets are attended by Lead bank officers, Branch Managers of commercial and Regional rural banks, District De Contact us Managers of NABARD etc. These meets have produced an encouraging response from the bankers for budding entrepreneurs.
